Meet Our Superintendent

Dr. Beverly Hurley

            Beverly Hurley is in her third year as Superintendent of Buckeye Union High School District #201 and her thirty-first year in education . Over the years she has also worked as a teacher, counselor, student teacher coordinator, peer counseling coordinator, athletic director, assistant principal, and principal. She was named the 2000 Arizona High School Principal of the Year and the 2001 NASSP/MetLife National High School Principal of the Year. She earned her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees from Northern Arizona University and was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Northern Arizona University in 2001.
            Dr. Hurley is dedicated to improving education in her community. She also devotes time and energy to education at the state and national levels. She currently serves on the West Ed Board of Directors, and on numerous state education committees. She is past president of Arizona School Administrators, president of the Buckeye Valley Administrators, and a Buckeye Valley Chamber of Commerce Board Member. She has also been a member of the National Council of State Legislators (NCSL) Task Force on School Leadership, the National Commission for the Advancement of Educational Leadership Preparation, and the Oquirrh Institute Teachers to Tomorrow project. She participated in the 2001 National Principals Leadership Summit focusing on accountability and assessment and the 2001 National Education Summit. Dr. Hurley has served on Arizona School Administrators conference planning committees, the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce K-12 Educational Finance and Reform Task Force, and the School-to-Work Community Task Force. She presents regularly at regional and state education conferences and at various universities.
            She is the proud mother of her daughter, Caitlin J. Filleman, and mother-in-law to Daniel W. Filleman, who are both educators in Arizona. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, traveling, water sports, gardening, writing, the ocean, and spending time with her family and friends.
