2021-22 A-F School Letter Grades

November 1, 2022

BUHSD Community,

At the end of the business day yesterday, the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) released the 2021-22 A-F School Letter Grades for all public schools statewide.  These labels are determined by student achievement and growth on state-mandated exams, college and career readiness indicators, and graduation/dropout rates.

We are pleased to share that both Estrella Foothills High School and Youngker High School each maintained the letter grade of a “B”; the same rating that all high schools in the district received the last time letter grades were given prior to the pandemic.  Buckeye Union is listed as UR (Under Review) due to a discrepancy with the percentage of students who graduated.  We have submitted data to ADE and are awaiting the review.  Once ADE is able to review and confirm the data, a letter grade should be issued.  We will report that grade as soon as we receive it.   We will provide more detail on what data is included in determining labels during our Governing Board meeting on November 14th.

We are incredibly proud of our hard-working students, faculty, and staff who have put forth their best efforts throughout the past few years and the challenges we have all faced.  As a district, our focus continues to be on providing students with the best experiences possible while in high school, both inside and outside of the classroom, and preparing them to be Future Ready.  We want all students who graduate from BUHSD to have a pathway chosen where they individually can find success and happiness.

We do want to note that the state-mandated exams required of high school students has changed since the last time labels were released.  Previous exams were standards-based exams testing the Arizona Academic Standards taught in the required curriculum standards.  ACT, which is now given, is a national college entrance exam that includes content not covered in the standards we teach.

We appreciate your support of our students, faculty, and staff who serve them and hope you will join us in celebrating the continued achievement of our students.

Sincerely,
Dr. Steven Bebee
Superintendent
Buckeye Union High School District
